The Montreal Impact begins group phase play in the 2014-2015 CONCACAF Champions League at Stade Saputo on Tuesday night, at 8pm, against Club Deportivo FAS, from El Salvador.

Here are 10 things you need to know about IMFC’s international opponent:


  1. C.D. FAS, established in 1947 in Santa Ana, is participating in its third CONCACAF Champions League.
  2. The team qualified by finishing as the runner-up with the best aggregate record in 2013–14 season, with Isidro Metapan both winning the Apertura 2013 and Clausura 2014.
  3. The club normally plays its home games at Estadio Óscar Alberto Quiteño, a 15,000-seat stadium located in Santa Ana, but the stadium does not meet CONCACAF standards.
  4. C.D. FAS won the 1979 CONCACAF Champions’ Cup over Curaçaoan club CRKSV Jong Colombia 8-2 on aggregate goals, including 7-1 win in front of 50,000 fans at Estadio Cuscatlan.
  5. The Santa Ana club also took part in the 2012-2013 CONCACAF Champions League edition, finishing third of a group including the Houston Dynamo and Club Deportivo Olimpia.
  6. C.D. FAS holds the record for most national titles won with 17.
  7. In its first matchup of the 2014 Apertura, last Saturday, C.D. FAS lost 1-0 to C.D. Dragón at Estadio Juan Francisco Barraza, in San Miguel.
  8. C.D. FAS is made of several El Salvador National Team players, including defenders Xavier Garcia, Alexander Mendoza and Miguel Lemus, midfielders Raul Renderos and Bryan Tamacas as well as forwards Jonathan Aguila and Lester Blanco.
  9. The team arrived in Montreal on Sunday and will train at Stade Saputo Monday evening.
  10. C.D. FAS will host the Impact on August 20, in Salvador.
