The Montreal Impact has more possibilities now when deciding the game day formation and lineup, since acquiring forward Jack McInerney but no decision has been made yet as to who will play where this Saturday when the bleu-blanc-noir takes on the Chicago Fire at the Olympic Stadium.
“We have options now, so for us, we are looking at different things and different pairings, with Jack and Marco, but also everywhere else on the field,” said Impact assistant coach Mauro Biello. “It’s about finding that formula to win games. Jack is an important piece and we need to find the right formula for him and the rest of the roster to help the team win.”
As comparisons have been made between Di Vaio’s and McInerney’s playing styles, one might think that two similar-type players at the forward position at the same time may be redundant, but Biello thinks it could work if the Impact decides to start both players.
“There was a good combination between them today at training. It will take some time, for sure, but they are both intelligent players and they will be able to find spaces for themselves. You never want players in the same spaces and if they can understand that, they’ll give opposing defenders fits.”
Impact head coach Frank Klopas probably hopes those fits can start as early as Saturday to help his side earn its first win of the season against his former team.
