MONTREAL – Montreal Impact defender Karl W. Ouimette has been named honorary president of the Leucan Shaved Head Challenge in Terrebonne and will have his head shaved on Sunday June 2, at the Galeries Terrebonne, to help raise money for the cause.
The Academy product has held this cause close to his heart for a number of years now as his sister Julie, 17 months his junior, reached out to the community to help find a marrow donor for her third transplant last year.
"I am proud and honoured to be the honorary president in Terrebonne for the Leucan Shaved Head Challenge this year,” said Ouimette. “We have supported Leucan since 2002 and take part in activities organized throughout the year that have helped research and our family forget momentarily about the disease. My sister is one of the first kids to be helped with experimental treatment thanks to funding from Leucan. I am proud of my accomplishments as a professional player, but the real champion in our family is my sister.”
The Leucan Shaved Head Challenge supports children who have to suffer through an altered body image resulting from hair loss due to chemotherapy. It is also a fundraiser for services offered to families of children with cancer, while helping with research and putting together adapted activities for these children with particular needs.
