LIVE FROM 9AM
Our eSport player presented by BMO Loux11 will be competing with the best in the world this weekend as he represents CF Montreal at the first ever Team of the Season (TOTS) Cup in London.
Alix Largerie will be joined by a teammate, American Joshua Clemente (America845), as this competition will bring together the 32 best FIFA 22 duos in the world.
The Montreal duo earned their ticket to the prestigious tournament by winning the Washington Open after defeating New York City FC in the final by a score of 4-2 on December 10, 2021. This competition brought together the best eSports teams from Eastern Canada and the United States.
"Just being there is crazy! I can't wait to meet the people there," says Largerie. There will be the best in the world, but if we qualified, it means we deserve to be there. It's going to be a high-level event and it makes me proud to represent CF Montreal.”
And what a level of play! In a qualifying format similar to classic soccer tournaments, Alix and Joshua will face off against renowned duos representing Manchester United, Inter Milan, and the popular Spanish team dedicated exclusively to video games, Case Esports.
“I've never played against my opponents, says the Saint-Pierre-et-Miquelon native. It will be a challenge because the game styles can be different from one region to another. My goal is to get through the group stage and then go as far as possible to represent my club well.”
Alix will be able to rely on the complementary nature of his teammate for the occasion, whom he has met online.
"Although I'm the leader, Joshua brings a more attacking style of play, so I can focus my strengths on defense. It's a nice mix! We're not the two greatest players on the continent, but we have a great team cohesion, and that's what made the difference against other teams that fielded very good players who didn't form a great alliance while playing."
Our FIFA 22 representative comes to London fresh off his participation in the eMLS Cup Last Chance Qualifiers, which was his first career "live" tournament. ("With the players around you, it's a whole different atmosphere!")
Having missed an eMLS Cup Grand Finals appearance by only three points, Alix impressed many eMLS regulars as one of its most impressive rookies.
"I know I did well in my first year eMLS, but I know I could do better. I learned from this. For a first season, it's good, but when you're a competitor, you always expect more.”
CF Montréal will be one of only three MLS teams represented at the London tournament, along with the Houston Dynamo and Atlanta United FC, the latter of which has eMLS Cup 2022 champion PauloNeto999 in its ranks.
