Marco Di Vaio Named AT&T MLS All-Star ‘In the Game’ Forward

Marco Di Vaio All-Star EA Sports FIFA 13

MONTREAL – Montreal Impact forward Marco Di Vaio is the winner of the AT&T MLS All-Star ‘In the Game’ Challenge. Fans around the world scored 74,000 goals with Di Vaio through EA SPORTSTM FIFA Soccer 13 from July 3 to 10 to secure him a spot on the All-Star Fan XI.

Di Vaio outscored the other 26 eligible MLS forwards, with one goal equaling one vote.

"I am very proud and honoured to be the first ever player selected to the MLS All-Star team by the millions of FIFA Soccer 13 players around the world,” said Marco Di Vaio.” I would like to thank all those fans who played FIFA 13. I am proud to represent the Montreal Impact as an MLS All-Star."

Di Vaio is currently first in MLS with 11 goals, tied with Mike Magee from the Chicago Fire. The Italian forward is one of three MLS players to record a hat trick this season, scoring three goals versus Philadelphia.

This is the first time in any professional sports league that fans used a videogame to determine the outcome of a vote for an All-Star game. Through general voting via MLSsoccer.com, text message and Twitter, 10 other players were previously named All-Stars.

On Monday, July 15, All-Star Head Coach Peter Vermes of Sporting Kansas City will name his game day roster that will take on AS Roma at Sporting Park in Kansas City, Kansas. The game will be broadcast live on ESPN2, UniMas, and in Canada on TSN and RDS, starting at 9pm ET.
