With the move to MLS last year for the Montreal Impact, the club made a number of changes to the stadium going from 13 034 to 20 801 seats.
The initial expansion project also included the construction of a synthetic surface that could be used by the local community in need of improved infrastructure in the borough of Mercier-Hochelaga-Maisonneuve.
“The synthetic surface is the newest and most up-to-date Field Turf technology called Revolution,” said Eric Girouard, Director of operations at Stade Saputo. “The field will have a FIFA 2 star rating, the highest grade available for turf.”
Located just outside of the main entrance to Stade Saputo, in the Olympic Park, the field will also be used by the pros for training, as well as the club’s Academy and soccer schools.
“The field will most likely be in use every day, which is very positive,” added Eric Girouard. “We also have a deal with the UQAM Citadins to use it as their home field.”
The playing surface measures 68 x 110 meters. Locker rooms for 20 people and grandstands are also in the works for a near future.
