Didier Drogba’s teammates are eager to catch up with him.

Now that head coach Mauro Biello has confirmed that Drogba will join up with the group in Texas this Thursday, it was time for the Montreal Impact players to comment on the Ivorian striker’s return on Wednesday.

The Impact plays its third game of the season at Toyota Stadium this Saturday at 9pm EDT (TVA Sports 2 [pre-game show at 8:30pm] & CJAD 800 AM).

“We know how important he is,” said Laurent Ciman. “He’ll be ready, that’s for sure. It’ll be up to the coach to adapt to that, and we will use Didier’s qualities, which we know well.”

Harry Shipp, who will be tasked with feeding Drogba the ball, is adamant that his return can only benefit the team.

“When you bring in a guy of that quality, he’s just going to make the team better, deeper and stronger throughout the rest of the year,” Shipp said. “He’s a special talent. He’s got a lot of quality. He’s smart. He’s going to show up and play well. He’s smart with his runs, and he’s got a strong personality. You know where he is, which is a good thing for a target forward like that. It makes it easy for midfielders like us.”

“He’s an excellent player. I don’t know how he’s feeling. Mauro will talk to him, figure out whether he makes the starting lineup or if he comes off the bench,” added Nacho Piatti. “But Didier coming back in the group is very important.”
