Educational Support

The Sport-Study program at the CF Montréal Academy offers a close collaboration between the academic and sports components, with a clear and strict rule: prioritize academic success over athletic achievement. To achieve this, it is important for players to maintain a good academic record. During their training, student-athletes receive specific educational support:

  • Tailored teaching to accommodate the training and competition schedules of the student-athlete.
  • A system for catching up on missed lessons in case of sports activities (competitions and national selections).
  • Mandatory study period (60 minutes) every day, supervised by a tutor/homework assistant.
  • Recovery classes and tutoring available upon request from a coach, teacher, parent, or student.

Adjusted Schedules

The Sport-Study program is unique in North America and specific to the province of Quebec. This format is an essential tool for organizing the schedules of regular classes and participating in high-level training. The program is recognized and endorsed by the Ministry of Education, as well as the Quebec Soccer Federation.

Classes end at 12:25 PM (depending on schools) from Monday to Friday, making room for sports training.

Example of a typical day:

  • 8:05 AM: Start of classes
  • 12:25 PM: End of classes and lunch (depending on schools)
  • 1:00 PM: Arrival by bus at the training center (public transportation or shuttle service provided by the Club with certain schools)
  • 1:30 PM – 3:00 PM: Training for U17 male and U16 female groups while U15 male and U18 female groups are in mandatory study
  • 3:30 PM – 5:00 PM: Training for U15 male and U18 female groups while U17 male and U16 female groups are in mandatory study
  • 5:00 PM: End of the day for everyone

The schedule will be adjusted during exam periods and according to the competition calendar. During the summer, for U15-U17 boys and U16-U18 girls groups, the schedule is Monday to Friday from 1:30 PM to 3:00 PM and from 3:30 PM to 5:00 PM. Reserve team players train between 9:30 AM and 11:00 AM.

Vacations: All players have a two-week break during the holiday season, a three-week break in the summer between mid-July and early August for the U15-U17 boys group, and a three-week break between mid-August and early September for the U16-U18 girls group. Players also have the option of taking a one-week break during the spring break, the first week of March.

Post-Secondary Education

The Academy strongly encourages players to continue their academic journey by joining a CEGEP (Collège d'enseignement général et professionnel) in the Sport-Study alliance. This alliance allows players to adapt their class schedules to their training and competition schedules and benefit from many other services. More information can be found at www.alliancesportetudes.ca.

After CEGEP

Some universities recognize the status of excellence athletes, allowing flexibility in class and exam schedules based on training/competition schedules.
